When to start weaning?

You plan to start giving your baby something else then just milk. Don't hurry. This is a big step for your little one's body. The later the better. Lots of mums start it after about 4th month. Also all baby food manufacturing companies recommend to start weaning at this age. But it's definitely too early. If you're breastfeeding, your baby has everything he needs to develop properly. Your milk is like a drink to him, as well as breakfast, a soup, big tasty diner and even a delicious dessert.

The best time to start weaning is about 7 months after the birth. Your baby's digestive system is much more mature now and can cope better with new food. But of course you can start earlier or later.

Try not to start before your baby is 6 months old. It doesn't matter that other mums, you know, started earlier. It's their baby, so therefore their choice. But remember that even if you start at 8th month or later, your baby will finally grow up anyway and will be eating everything like others but with less risk of food allergy.

Your baby will tell you if she's ready for the new food adventure. If  your baby's roving eyes when you eat, it's trying to grab something and it's definitely interested in what you are doing and by then probably already ready to try new food. But if you already tried and your baby refuses, don't worry. Wait another week or two and try once again.

It suppose to be fun for both of you so don't stress yourself, or your baby, if he's not doing well on the beginning. Next few months will be the time just trying new tastes, your milk still will be his main meal.
